In this module, you'll start learning about essay structure and some other important tools for good writing. There's a lot of information in this module, but it's all necessary for writing well. Make sure you take notes so you will remember these tools when you write your essays. Note to learners- this course is designed for learners of English with intermediate English writing skills. The sample essays in this course are aimed at that level. However, the principles discussed in the lessons are practical for writers of any level. If you're at a lower level, do the best you can. If you are a more advanced writer, feel free to write more developed and complex essays than the ones in the examples. Just make sure you follow the structures introduced.

We're going to write the compare and contrast essay. Remember the key to good writing is being specific. You'll use lots of details in your compare or contrast essay.
On the left side, we have what's called a Venn diagram, two circles that intersect each other. Another type of diagram you can use for preparing you compare or contrast essay is just a T chart. It doesn't matter which of these methods you use, but you should use some kind of strategy when you're planning your compare contrast essay.
So then in the body of this paragraph, the writer first talks about morning people and who they are committed to, what their priority is. This one uses the transition, to sum up, and it just uses three sentences to give a summary of the points made in this essay. And, remember, the thesis statement must tell us what the topic is and then what kind of an essay you'll be writing, whether it's compare or contrast.
