the big hand, is for counting minutes one cycle is 60 minutes and there are 60 minutes in one hour.

the little hand is for counting hours, one cycle is twelve hours and there are 24 hours in one day.

the big hand is on the twelve.

we say it is an o clock.

half hours.

the big hand is on the six.

the little hand is between two hours.

we say it is half past something.

here it is half past one.

the big hand is on the three.

the little hand is between two hours.

we say it is quarter past something here it is quarter past 8:00 or for digital displays of eight fifteen.

or twenty fifteen.

quarter hours before.

the big hand is on the nine.

the little hand is between two hours.

we say, It is a quarter to something.

here, It is a quarter to 5.

for digital displays oh for forty five or Sixteen forty five.

Minutes after.

the big hand is between 12:00 and 6:00.

the little hand is between two hours.

we say, It is a number of minutes past something

here it is five minutes past 7.

for digital displays.

7 0 5 or 0 7 0 5 or 19 0 5.

another example here it is 20 minutes past 10 or 20 past 10.

for digital displays 10:20 or 22:20.

minutes before.

the big hand is between six and 12.

The little hand is between two hours.

we say it is so many minutes to something.

here it is five minutes to 9:00

or for digital displays, o eight fifty five or 20:55.
