Really happy to be here in front of all of you today to tell you about some of the fine art of public speaking and how you too can look comfortable and confident the whole time you see what I’m doing there.
The eyes floating like that.
That’s unfortunately what happens when people are in front of large crowds.
They may sound comfortable.
Their body language may be comfortable.
They may have something interesting to say but if your eyes are kind of just floating the whole time because you just can imagine this whole sea of people it makes you look nervous.
It makes you look uncomfortable.
Here’s what I recommend with the eye contact.
Just pick one spot way out to the left and hold that eye contact for a full thought.
Just a sentence or two then go to another part of the crowd completely different hold your eye contact for a couple of sentences five six seconds then go to another park.
Now this works even if you’re on a stage a bright light and you can’t see the crowd what you’re after is steady eye contact for a full thought because all the people the 20 or so people in that area will feel like wow he really spoke to me she really spoke to me.
Everyone else seeing you will have the perception that you’re supremely confident because your eyes are not going all over the place.
So whether there’s lights on the audience or not it doesn’t matter just randomly pick different spots.
You don’t want to be like a water sprinkler going back and forth.
It shouldn’t be that consistent.
It should be different places but holding the eye contact for a full thought a couple of sentences do that and you’ll look much more confident in front of a large audience.
