متن انگلیسی درس

Hello again. Welcome. My name is Nelson. And in this video, we are gonna talk about how to memorize a grocery list, something that we have to do every day, almost every day; at least some type of list we have to memorize every day. And a grocery list is one of those items.

So to memorize a list of things, we can use different techniques, but the best one, the one that memory champions use in competition to do these crazy things, is called the memory palace. But first, we need to decide what our list is.

Now, you could just memorize the list by going through all these items in your head over and over again, but that’s boring. That’s the way you did it in preschool and kindergarten and first grade, sixth grade, high school. And it took you hours, and you hated it. The easy way is using this memory palace technique.

Taking this list and putting it in a familiar place like your apartment or your house, your workplace, anything you know really well that you can navigate in your mind’s eye.

So what you do is you take yourself back to that place and you imagine those pieces of your grocery list along a path through that place. Now, it’s up to you what to do with those images that you’re going to put in the place. The more bizarre, out of the ordinary, crazy you make these pictures, the more you’re gonna remember them.

So try to make them as silly as possible. Don’t understand what I mean quite yet? I’m going to show you. Let’s dive into my mind and actually place these items on my grocery list around my apartment. Let’s go. You ready?

So as you can see, it’s pretty easy to memorize any list as long as you just place those crazy images of whatever you’re trying to memorize in a location. The idea is that when you go back to remember what you memorized, you’re in the grocery store, you’re trying to think of that list, all you have to do is mentally go back to that same place in your head where you stored them and walk back through, picking up the images that you laid on the floor, in the sink, in the bathtub, all along that same very same path.

Cool, right? The best thing about it, you can do that forwards, you can do that backwards. I could tell you what the fifth item was, six item was, all I have to do is jump to that location on my mind.

And that is the memory palace. You can memorize thousands of digits, tons of packs of cards, all the presidents, every winner of the NFL Super Bowl, whatever you want, you can use the memory palace to memorize.

I have no doubt in my mind that your memory will be awesome by the time you’re done with it. I’ll see you on the flip side as a memory champion.
