Public Speaking for Kids and Parents Overview

Here’s the thing about public speaking.

It’s one of the few things in life where you can be 13 years old.

You can be five years old and you can actually be better than a lot of adults are parents now that’s just not true and a lot of things in life it’s not true with driving and other dangerous skills that are only available to adults.

But public speaking is different.

Here’s why.

We’ve all seen really boring public speakers sometimes teachers sometimes people in other settings whether it is people who are speaking your community about various issues we’ve all seen boring speakers and what happens when you’re bored.

You daydream you doodle you play on a cell phone or some sort of electronic game.

That person isn’t communicating at all.

Well guess what it doesn’t matter if you’re 5 years old or fifty five years old.

If you’re boring you’re not communicating.

On the other hand if you can stand up and speak whether it’s in front of just two parents or in front of 30 other classmates or perhaps your entire school five hundred people if you can do that.

That is a great skill and any age you can learn that is a great time to learn it because it’s a skill you can use right now to help you get through school but also to help you with every other project whether it’s a scouting project whether you’re trying to ask for an increase in an allowance from your parents the ability to speak and to speak in a way where people will listen to you and have a sense that you’re comfortable relaxed.

That’s a good thing.

If they can understand you and remember your message there’s a just a much greater chance that you’ll get what you want.

Whether it’s getting a good grade on that book report whether it is getting permission to go on that camping trip whatever it is you increase the odds of getting what you want in life whether it’s in school whether it’s at home or in anything else you do.
