Adjectives - start here to learn about adjectives.

Hello and welcome to this section on adjectives.

We use adjectives to modify nouns and pronouns and these are really important words because they add useful information to a sentence.

For an example, if I were to say to you, “the cat sat on the mat”.

I have a picture in my mind of what that looks like and you have an image in your mind of what that looks like.

But they’re really not going to be the same because there’s not any detail.

So if I were to use adjectives I could give you a far more detailed description and I could say something like, “the small tabby cat sat on the round green mat” and we both now have a much clearer picture of what we’re talking about.

And this is where adjectives come in.

This is a relatively short section,

so we look initially at different types of adjectives, again with plenty of examples.

We look at comparing things that are equal with adjectives and things that are unequal and then we look at superlatives.

And finally, a quite important lesson, is on the order of adjectives.

And for instance why we would say, “a big blue bus”, and not, “a blue big bus”.not, “a blue big bus”.
