I mentioned earlier that one of the things you should do to become great at elevator pitches is to study.

Great elevator pitches go to YouTube Google great elevator pitches and see what you see.

But I also want you to learn what not to do.

And fortunately the world is filled with bad elevator pitches.

So I want you to see what other people do.

So if for example you’re at some kind of angel investing event and people are standing up giving their elevator pitches really listen to them watch them how are they coming across how do they look how do they sound.

If you’re at some sort of a networking event people are standing up and introducing themselves.

Listen to that.

If you have other friends who are in a position where they get pitched frequently ask them what they don’t like.

Here is in my experience what most people do wrong with their elevator pitch is all they do is talk about me me me.

Hi my name is this.

I want this.

I do this.

I want your time.

I want this.

And it’s just not interesting.

It’s me me me me me not you.

Here’s how I can help you.

And it’s.

Hi my name is T.J. Walker I’m a senior partner at the firm of X Y and Z and we handle litigation and commercial and this and that and civil this and we do a full panoply of all legal services and so if you need legal services please consider our firm well guess what.

That’s just described a million lawyers in the United States.

So there’s nothing interesting there.

There’s no benefit to me and it’s just generic it’s abstract it’s fuzzy and it falls with a thud.

So you’ve heard me say that.

But I want you to develop an ear and an eye for bad pitches.

It’s like anything else if you’re constantly analyzing the world looking for something.

It just shapes your whole being and you get better at it if you’re constantly looking for the good elevator pitches as we’ve talked about earlier and you’re not copying them but you’re letting that influence you but you’re also looking for the bad elevator pitches you’re letting that influence you to him by not doing it.

So that people who seem scared or stiff and you’re worried about them that’s not going to work.

The people who don’t even look someone in the eye that doesn’t work and the people who just give the name rank and serial my name my title my organization and hear all the services we do that never works.

It just doesn’t generate more interest.

So whatever you do avoid the basic blunders people make and it’s pretty easy to avoid those basic mistakes if you just give a little thought plus follow the lessons we’ve discussed in this course.

It’s easy to avoid that.

So become a kind of sewer of elevator pitches.

The good ones and the bad ones.

It will make you better.
