Hello and welcome to this section on conditionals.
Conditional sentences are fairly commonly used in English and they all have the same format which is namely, if clause comma result and all of these conditionals you can switch them around to say result if clause.
There are five types of conditionals we’ll look at here.
The so-called zero conditional, first conditional, second conditional, third conditional and mixed conditional.
In case you’re wondering after 1 2 and 3 surely 4 has to come next.
The mixed conditional has this name due to the fact that it takes the if clause from the second conditional with the results of the third or the other way round.
So there’s two two versions of the mixed conditional and you’ll sometimes see conditional one two and three referred to as type one two and three.
So if you’re looking around for additional resources don’t let that confuse you.
The layout and structure.
of each lesson is the same here.
We’ll look at when to use the particular conditional, we’ll look at how it’s formed and which tenses and aspects are used and we’ll have plenty of examples.
Just as a word of warning:
this section is based on previous sections, namely the verb section and particularly the tenses and aspects section.
So if you’re looking through the lessons here and you’re wondering what’s this present perfect or past perfect continuous they’re talking about, please go back and check those sections out and all will be clear.
