Hello and welcome to this section on nouns.
When you first start learning English, you’re often given a fairly limited definition of what a noun is.
You’ll be told it’s something you can touch, or see.
As you progress with your language learning, you realise it’s also other intangible things.
So we now will give a more comprehensive definition of a noun and say it’s something you can feel, see, taste, or touch.
This section initially looks at how we can sort nouns into different categories which are overlapping - although, I’ll explain what I mean.
So the first thing we look at is common or proper nouns.
We then look at concrete or abstract nouns, countable and uncountable nouns, and these are all just different ways in which we can divide nouns into one of two groups.
So we can have common, concrete, uncountable nouns.
Okay.
They’re not exclusive.
Once we’ve looked at this way of dividing them into two groups, we then look at forming plurals of nouns, we look at capitalization rules for nouns, we look at collective nouns, we look at pronouns, compound nouns, possessives in relation to nouns, and gerunds.
And in all of these lessons, there will be information on what this particular item is, when we would use it, how to use it and plenty of examples, so you can see really clearly what we mean.
