Abstract and Concrete - what they are and how they differ.

This lecture looks at concrete and abstract nouns.

Another way of dividing nouns is into concrete and abstract nouns.

Concrete nouns are tangible things.

Things that you can see, or touch, or have some physical aspect.

They can be common or proper nouns.

They can be singular or plural.

For instance: table, country, chairs, England, Lisa.

Abstract nouns are intangible things things that you cannot see or touch.

They are more like concepts, or feelings, or ideas.

For instance: love, hate, misery, fear, trust, knowledge.
