Vocabulary in Questions

Now, when you’re going through Text Completions, especially if you’re new to the GRE and you haven’t been practicing vocab when you first go through these text completions, the words are going to seem overwhelming, totally seem overwhelming.

You’re gonna have sententious, pulchritudinous, lugubrious, and all these words and what happens is you feel overwhelmed. Now it says here don’t feel overwhelmed; easier said than done. But I encourage you to maintain your equanimity, your poise, and learn to work around that vocab and reason through the questions without necessarily knowing all the words.

Sure you’re gonna get frustrated at first, but guess as much as is possible. Eventually you’re gonna start picking up on more words because you’re learning vocabulary on the side. It’s assumed that you’re not necessarily learning your Vocab.

words directly from these questions. However, over time, once you’ve learned hundreds and hundreds of Vocab. words. So your Vocab. is burgeoning by the day.

Then you actually want to pay more attention to the vocabulary in the text completion questions themselves. So you’ll start to recognize more of these words over time, and you’ll have the flash of recognition, but you won’t recognize recognize every word.

And that’s why you should write down the words you don’t know. You should add them to your flash card list, your quizlet list and eventually this will help you build up your vocab even more and more.

Again, the reason we don’t do this at first is all you would be doing is learning vocab because so many vocab words you do not know, but again after a while you will start recognizing many words as flash of recognition again goes back to oh that word means such and such build that connection.

Again, there will be a few words you don’t know. Reasons for the questions, but afterwards, make those words part of your learning or your active vocabulary. And no need to feel overwhelmed.

Learn words as you do the questions and when you get up to a higher level, but at first relax. Don’t feel overwhelmed.
