Work back everybody in this lecture we’re just going to have a quick look at generally what kind of questions you can typically receive in writing. Task One of ials. So let’s first of all have a look at some key points about Tasco in TASC one you need to write a minimum of 150 words. If you do not write 150 words you are going to lose marks for task achievement which is worth 25 percent of your score. So make sure you write 150 words. You’re generally advised to spend no longer than 20 minutes on this section and that is a very good recommendation because you need to be spending more time on task to 40 minutes on Task 2 which has 250 word minimum word count. So spend no more than 20 minutes on TOSCAN it’s worth half as many points as tasked to. Another reason why you should spend more time on task too. It’s still vital that you spend a sufficient amount of time on task one as it really does affect your school in a big way but Task 2 does have more of an influence over your school. You may be presented with a graph a table a process or a map and we’re going to look at these in a little bit more detail in a moment. Sometimes they give you multiple graphs multiple processes multiple maps these are possible and you have to look at both of these diagrams processes graphs tables in comparison to one another just remember as well. Just like with Task 2 you can write you on say in pen or pencil perhaps pencil is slightly more advisable because you’re able to erase things a little bit more easily. But if you use a pen just try to be neat when you make a mistake. So let’s have a look at some examples. Those tables as processes those maps across here is a typical example of a graph. It’s a chart technically and this is where we have a pie chart. So you typically get a question like this next to a diagram like this on the right. The charts give information about the ages of the populations of Yemen and Italy in 2000 and projections for 2000 and 50. This exam has been taken from one of the official Iowas passed test papers. And so it is an all of the examples we’re going to look at in this lecture are examples of official past test questions. The question is always followed by summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features or make comparisons where relevant. Try not to skip over that part of the task that part of the task contains some important information. It’s always the same but it’s still important. We’ll be talking about that in future elections. And as I mentioned previously right at least 150 wups is an example of a table the table below gives information about the underground railway systems in six cities. Same again summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant right at least 150 words. Basically a table is just another way of organizing data. Some people struggle with tables but we will look at how to talk about those. Over the duration of this course is an example of a map task the two maps show in Ireland before and after the construction of some tourist facilities. As always summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant. Right. At least 150 words again. Map tasks are something that we’re going to look at over the duration of the schools. Just be aware that they are not as common as graphs charts and tables and that’s the same for processors as you can see. There is a process diagram show the stages and equipment used in the cement making process and how cement is used to produce concrete for building purposes. Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons more relevant again. 250 words. So those are the typical kind of tasks you can expect to see in task one. So as long as you’re aware that you will only ever guess a table a graph a chart or a process or a map. You don’t have to worry about anything else. Those are the types of tasks that you can be presented with in task one. And we are going to be looking at each of these tasks over the duration of this course and in the next lecture we’ll learn about what we need to do to get a high score in general regardless of whatever task type of task we’re looking at.
