Hi everyone, let me invite you to an amazing world, academic research.

If you’re a graduate student, you may ask yourself, to do or not to do a PhD?

What will happen if I follow that track?

You have just begun your PhD and wondering how to present your research right.

In which genre should I publish?

For starters, you should know that one of the main tasks of the researcher is to spread their work and present it to peers.

For that, the scientific community developed a peer review system to ensure the best development of research.

I am Mattias Mano, first year PhD student from Ecole Polytechnique, and with my peers and colleagues, we will present you the complex but fascinating world of publication in academia.

The entire class will be taught by students like you but with enough experience to help and guide you through the publication process.

Never heard of Science or Nature, Econometrica, or The American Economic Review?

Not a problem.

I hadn’t when I began.

We know how complicated it is to get the information because each journal has developed its own framework, its own rules.

Of course, your supervisors provide you with important advice, but you have to build your own network and understand how it works.

We are here to do this together.

Starting from your field of interest, we will tackle one of the main questions a scholar has to ask him or herself, how to publish?

First of all, we will introduce you to the academic world and why it is important to publish your work.

The second part of the course will help you to understand how to define the importance of your research in your field, in what sense your research is creative and innovative in your field.

The third part focuses on the article itself and answers question about how to construct an article.

What are the rules concerning the abstract and the bibliography?

Finally, you have your outline, you know what you will write, but then what?

Do you think it is enough?

Not quite.

We will address the critical factors you mustn’t forget once you finish the writing, and the main mistakes to avoid.

Through this class, you will practice concretely how to write an abstract, how to build your bibliography, and you will learn important tools that will definitively help you.
