Test Your Sound Bites

There’s no such thing as a great soundbite in the abstract.

You can’t simply read a web page or a newspaper in general and tell if that’s a great soundbite.

Why do I say that.

It’s because a soundbite is good.

If and only if three things are true.

Number one it’s one hundred percent on your message The soundbites are not running the show.

Your message is running the show.

Number two there’s no unintended consequences nuances offenses.

And number three you’re personally comfortable with it.

If I give you a cricket analogy to use in your sound bite you don’t watch cricket and you don’t understand it.

You’re probably going to feel stupid using a cricket analogy.

Don’t use it you might prefer a symphony music analogy or you might prefer football or soccer or baseball or some other analogy or some other sport.

Use what you like.

If you’re uncomfortable with it it’s gonna be difficult to say it with a straight face during the interview.

Don’t use it so remember all three things need to be true.

Gotta be on message no offences and you’re personally comfortable with this sound bite because if you feel like it’s cheesy or silly or ridiculous you’re going to feel awkward delivering it and you also want something that if you see it 10 years from now and you Google your own name you’re not embarrassed by it.
