In Lesson Two, we'll identify and classify expressions, vocabulary, and body language to use during online group discussions. Your voice can sound different when you use a microphone or be more difficult to understand, so it's very important to pay extra attention to the pronunciation skills we looked at in Module 1. Online video conferencing blends 21st Century technology with your experience and English language skills, and creates opportunities for your success.
Whichever one you chose, I hope you'll become familiar with it enough, to do a video conference through it by the end of this module. In this lesson, we'll be looking at, and practicing group discussion language, such as to agree or disagree with other speakers, to clarify, which means to make sure we understand, to restate in your own words what someone else has said, to take a turn and to show interest. Whether your group discussion takes place in person or online, you will use similar vocabulary, so the expressions you learn in this lesson will be very useful.
In the previous lesson, we looked at how to agree or disagree, how to clarify and restate, how to interrupt or include another speaker, and how to show interest. By paying attention to other speakers and by using typical group discussion language, you should find that you have good conversations and avoid mistakes. Here's the first situation, after discussion, a speaker suggests using a new social media platform for advertising and asks for the group's agreement.
