This video is a sample of a reading passage that you would see on the TOEFL.

It’s a little bit different from a real TOEFL reading package because of course, this is a video.

And on the TOEFL, you won’t have videos.

Instead, you’ll have normal computer text with a scroll bar on the side, just like you would see on a website, on a blog, or on a Microsoft Word document or PDF or anything else.

Now, that means this lesson is a little bit different to use.

The other thing we should think of is the clock.

On the actual TOEFL, you’ll have a clock that counts down.

Here, now, you should actually count up.

You’re going to set a timer that starts at zero and goes up so you can learn your speed.

Ideally, you should spend around seven minutes reading this passage.

If you’re spending more than ten minutes, then it’s too slow.

You need to learn how to speed up.

So, the point of this now, is to learn your speed.

Do you need to read faster?

Or are you reading at a good pace already?

Okay.

Besides that, there’s just a small detail in scrolling.

So what you’ll do is you’ll pause the video and then you’ll skip forward by moving the progress bar under the video left or right.

So if you want to go to the next paragraph, you move the progress bar to the right.

Of course, on the real TOEFL, you would have a scroll bar on the side, and you would scroll by going up or down.

Here, we don’t have that, but this is basically the same thing.

Just use the progress bar, like you would the real TOEFL scroll bar.

So when you’re ready, you can pause this video and begin reading your passage.
